Fusion Technology provides operator level training for electrical soldering per IPC/J-STD-001.
This standard is the most common in use for both commercial and military applications. Many industries require that all soldered
assemblies sold to customers be completed by J-STD-001 certified personnel. The newest revision of STD-001 allows operators
to be certified for only the particular types of components being joined, rather than all types of components. For example, personnel
using surface mount components exclusively will not be required to certify for soldering of terminals.
We also provide general soldering training without IPC certification and training to other specifications.
We typically conduct this training at the customer's facility using their soldering stations. This allows us to reduce the cost
per student and keeps your people at work, rather than traveling to an off-site facility.
A typical IPC/J-STD-001
soldering certification program will cover the following items:
- Soldering techniques
- Solder fillet size
and shape for various components
- Identification of components
- PCB inspection
- Solderability testing
- Proper
use of flux and solder
- Leaded vs lead-free solder
- Flux cleaning solvents and technique
Included with each training program:
- Full-color training manuals for each student that are tailored to the
particular customer's welding and cutting equipment and requirements.
- Classroom instruction with Power Point
presentation
- Hands-on training for each student on their respective equipment.
The hands-on training
may be individual or performed with pairs or small
groups.
- Certification cards
- Databasing of training
records
- Written recommendations for soldering process improvement.
